Sharon's Running Story

4 images in one collage. Main image of lady with black glasses wearing pink jumper, nose ring, smiling wearing red Santa hat with white rim and ‘text santa’ embroidered in red. She is next to a young boy smiling with a red and white Santa hat.

Sharon started as a beginner back in January 2019 at one of our weekly sessions in Pallister Park. She started going along to Stewart Parkrun with her eldest son George, initially doing a mixture of running and walking. Sharon also started volunteering there too. Soon, she began attending two sessions a week and it wasn’t long before she ran her first 5k without stopping.

I caught up with Sharon to find out how she has been keeping motivated during lockdown without the usual group sessions to attend.

“Mainly I looked for something to keep me at it so I joined the This Girl runs April challenge. I knew if I didn’t have something to keep me going I would just be lazy. So, April was 100k walking or running and I’m hoping to complete the same this month.”

Her daughter, Maddie started running too and Sharon added ‘after lockdown started Maddie got interested in running as a way of getting some fresh air. She now even takes herself out to do C25k on days I don’t.’

Fabulous work Sharon!
