Boxing

Here’s another activity for you to try!

I’ve finally done it!  I’ve only been promising you guys a boxing write up since last summer but at last Joe and I managed to find space in our diaries and have a catch up.  If anyone is thinking of giving it a go I would highly recommend it.

A boxing session is one of the best forms of exercise as it gives a full body workout.  It is a great combination of cardio workout and muscle building strength training.

I met Joe at the newly refurbished Natural Progression Boxing Academy in Stockton where we started with a warm up on the rowing machine and some stretches.  Onto some skipping which I thought would be straight forward with the strength gained from running but it’s actually quite tiring.

This was followed with some shadow boxing and practicing my fighting stance (imagine me trying to get my footwork right?) but I managed ok and moved onto putting on the gloves for some pad work to practice punching technique.

Did a couple of mini circuits in between which involved sprints across the gym interspersed with press ups, mountain climbers and leg raises.

Finished with some work on the bag which I would imagine could be extremely good for stress relief and ended with some cool down stretches.

I have to say I enjoyed the session so much that I intend to keep practicing, using Lucas’ gloves and my Dad’s punchbag and return in the future to see if I’ve improved. Noticed there are ladies classes too - check out their timetable for details.

Don’t worry if you’ve not done any boxing before as Joe is very patient and an extremely good instructor.  After all, you are learning from a champion.

Thank you so much Joe!
